I guess I don't necessarily need to write an introduction, that's kind of vain, but it's been a while since I've visited Blogger and it might be useful. Besides, I don't mind writing these things. Any excuse to talk about yourself, right? Right.
Hello, then! I'm Emily and I like lots of things. Specifically, I like a ton of pop culture stuff, from mainstream movies like the Marvel Cinematic Universe to cult hit shows like Twin Peaks and even into new media such as podcasts like Welcome to Night Vale and (my current darling) Serial. Most of all, I like to talk about these things, but my family and friends get really tired of listening to me really, really fast. Sorry, guys. My bad.
That's kind of why I made this blog, actually: so I could talk about movies, shows, games, podcasts, all the pop culture I love as much as I wanted to. Tumblr used to be my blogging platform of choice, but it doesn't really lend itself to long posts; its strength is in images and short and sweet text posts. I'm back on Blogger so I can write those long posts without worrying about a word count or walls of text.*
I think I'll also have some pseudo-liveblogging and screencaps of whatever I'm watching or playing at the time, but it shouldn't be too much. Like I said, Tumblr lends itself to these short kind of reaction posts, more so than a format like Blogger.
The URL, "ECHOcasting," refers to audio messages and journals found in the Borderlands series, called ECHOcasts, that provide further information on a mission, a character, so on. I thought it was appropriate.
Let's see, what else can I say about myself without going overboard?
I graduated from college in December 2014 with my bachelor's degree in mass communications and a minor in film studies, so theoretically speaking I'm a smart person who knows what she's talking about as well as a Real Adult. Theoretically speaking.
I started roller derby in September 2014 at the closest team of about five in my state (it's still an hour from my house, more if there's any sort of traffic at all). I have yet to pass my level one WFTDA assessments but at least I'm making progress. It's super fun and I can't wait to be bout eligible and get my name and jersey.
My ideal job would be to write for The A.V. Club. They're my favorite website and even bigger pop culture junkies than I am. I wouldn't even mind moving up to Chicago where it's windy and cold in the winter; I would do almost anything to work for them or their sister site, The Onion. As of right now, though, I'm looking for a job in general, preferably something closer to my derby team and that actually uses my degree. I took out student loans to get this thing and I better be able to use it.
What I'm going to do to give you kind of an idea of what you'll find here is a few Top Ten lists. I like making lists and I tend to go in-depth about why I chose the things I chose. So sit tight; those'll be up in just a few.
*I also have some problems with parts of Tumblr's userbase, and those parts were leaking into the bubble I'd created for myself more and more every day, so I'm on a break I may or may not go back from. I miss the humor and the beautiful graphics and art, but I don't miss a lot of other things. It's not that big of a deal to me, but I just wanted to clear that up.
